What do you want?

We are working hard at the North Area Family YMCA in conjunction with the other branches around the area, to come up with some great training opportunities for you guys.  We know you want swimming, and you will get swimming.

We are hoping to start the Tri Swim Clinics in January.  For those of you that are totally new to swimming, you should check out the adult swim lessons, which are free to members and run consecutively with the children's swim lessons.  The next session begins January 4, and registration is the two weeks before that.  Ask at the front desk for a registration form.  These lessons are for people who do not feel comfortable putting their face in the water, or can't do a basic freestyle stroke.

We are also going to start offering some "brick" workouts.  For those of you who don't know, a brick workout is a workout that involved two of the sports of triathlon done right in a row.  For example, a bike/run brick or a swim/bike brick.  Most of you know I teach a spin class on Monday mornings at 9:30, and, if there is enough interest, this might become a bike/run brick class.

Of course, I know that many of you work and can't make it on Monday mornings, so I need you guys to do something for me.  Please leave a comment or shoot me an email and let me know WHAT kinds of trainings you are interested in (including the ones I've mentioned today) and WHEN you would like to see them offered.  If you want a swim clinic, when would be a good time?  If you have an idea for a training or informational class, let me know!!  We are here to serve you, so take advantage of us. Really!!

Kelly, working the front desk, I'm more than happy to help out passing along info on this.

As a hopeful newbie triathlete...I'm looking for improving my basic swimming skills (I can swim, but have no real "form" or endurance). Basic group lessons are a good place to start - but I'm also interested in the tri swim clinics.

I know for myself, I really need not just a consistency in instruction, but someone who I am comfortable with as an instructor and who is really hands on/involved in the teaching process.

Is there a way to utilize that time between 12:30 and 4:00? I know that having the club room closed limits trimommies with kids at home, but if anyone who can meet and would like to during that down time at the Y - I'm open to that. I also like the idea of a buddy/mentor system...pairing up with another at similar skill levels and getting feedback from someone who has a few tris under their belt.

Just a few thoughts!

I work full time, so evenings (after 5:30) and weekends work best for me. I would be interested in both the swimming and the brick work outs.

7:00 PM classes would work best for me.

As you have said the swim clinics starting in January would be great. As for times, early morning (before 8am) or early afternoon (lunch time) would be good. The brick work outs would be helpful as well specifically the swim / bike if it could be done as one class so that bikes could be set up before the swim and transition from the swim to the cycle room. Possibly on a weekend morning so that more people could attend.

Hi, everyone. There are three of us Tri newbies (Karin, Richelle, Katie) who signed up for adult swim class (Thurs PM), and they have been helpful [we've only done a couple sessions so far]. Mostly we're just getting used to lap swimming again and working on our strokes. We do look foward to Tri Swim Clinics when those begin, and I think Thurs. eve. (or evenings generally) would be a good time for us.

We've also been spinning a couple times a week, and we've noticed that the Sat. 7:45 AM Spin class with George fills up very quickly, and that there is talk about opening up a Sun. AM spin class. Is that possible? (For me personally, weekday 6am spin is just too early, but 9:30am is too late due to work/kids. Around 7:30 is perfect, or 8am on Sun. when the Y opens...)

Thanks, Kelly, for all your efforts! Katie Andrzejewski

I like the first poster need help with my swim, I also can swim but I'm having a hard time building up my endurance or not sure if my form is correct. Would really like the tri swim clinics. Also would like to know what we should be doing to train (i.e. how many times a week should we swim, run or bike, etc). Thanks.

Kelly, I am also interested in help with swim form and endurance. Tri swim, spin classes, and brick workouts interest me too. 5pm and later during the week and early mornings on weekends work best for me. Can you tell me the cost of these workouts, as I am not a Y member.

Thanks - Susan Elioff

These are all great suggestions...keep them coming! We will be diligently working on trying to offer these classes at many different times, so I will keep you posted. For those of you who aren't members...become a member!! No really...I'm not sure how much the classes are going to cost, but chances are you would get more from a monthly membership than just paying for the classes individually.

When is the child care available? I'm a sahm and my availablity would depend on when the kids could be cared for at the gym. I would be really interested in the swim, spinning, and the brick workouts.

Primetime childcare is open on weekdays from 8:30 - 12:30 and 3:45-8:00.

On Saturdays it is open from 8-1.
This is a free benefit to all YMCA members, and all of the Primetime staff are great with the kids.
