IronGirl Dates Announced!!

IronGirl Syracuse will be on Saturday, August 7, 2010.  The start time is bright and early at 7:00 a.m.  Registration will open December 31, and it is expected to sell out this year.

For those of you who may be cancer survivors, check out Team Courage. Aflac IronGirl honors all cancer survivors by paying their registration.

I'm super excited about racing IronGirl again this year.  If you are a seasoned endurance athlete, or are just dipping your toes into triathlon for the first time, this is a great race, and you will not regret participating! I have some great pictures of women from the North Area YMCA finishing last year here.

I remember watching all these women of different ages and shapes, riding bikes from top of the line tri bikes to a bike with a basket on it, from moms and daughters to grandmothers, and everytime someone finished they raised their arms in victory.  It's more than just about winning, it is about the journey, and it is so worth it!

For those of you who raced in 2009, what is your favorite memory from the race?

Yay- I'm really excited! Is there only on-line registration? If so, that doesn't open until December 31 Is there another way to register before then?

My mistake...online registration does not open until 12/31/09. I guess now you can ask for your registration for Christmas!!

My favorite memory from Iron Girl last year: I had finished the race, and was ready to go home. But, we couldn't go into transition to get our stuff until the last biker was finished. There were several finishers standing around, waiting to get in, when the last biker came riding in. We all cheered for her and encouraged her as if she were about to win the race, and she still had the run to do. She went off on the last leg of the race with an entire crowd of women proudly rooting her on.
The camaraderie at this race was amazing. Iron Girl was my first tri, and I'm so glad to have started out this sport with such an amazing group of women. I can't wait to do it again in 2010!
